MEDIA RELEASE - January 10, 2017

Council Mail out - Referendum - January 2017

Metchosin’s residents are headed to the polls on January 28th for a referendum, but first Mayor and Council are turning the microphone over to residents to give them the opportunity to ask the questions.

Metchosin’s Council members will sit on a panel together with members of the Beecher Bay Band Council to respond to residents’ questions and concerns about the boundary adjustment proposal and process.  The panel will answer questions during a town hall-style meeting scheduled for 7 pm on January 16th at the Metchosin Community Hall.

“This is part of the engagement process. Residents need to have their questions answered so they can inform themselves before the referendum,” said Mayor Ranns. “We want people to understand the proposal, and the alternatives.”

In addition to members of Council from Metchosin and Beecher Bay, Jim Hartshorne, Keycorp Development Ltd. will be on hand. Keycorp Development is the developer that is assembling the land that will be developed for business park and residential uses proposed to be included within Langford.

“We think it is important to answer everybody’s questions, and ensure people hear from those involved in the proposal instead of getting misinformation from other sources,” said Ranns. “They need to understand the benefits and risks involved, and what can happen if the proposal is not approved.”

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm at the Community Hall in Metchosin located at 4401 William Head Rd.

January 28th, is the date of the referendum. General voting will be done at the Metchosin Community Hall between 8 am and 8 pm, as well as advance polls available at Metchosin Municipal Hall on January 18th and 25th.
