Notice of Voting Boundary Adjustment Assent Voting

Notice is given that assent voting will be conducted on January 28, 2017 on the following question for the voting area of the District of Metchosin:

Do you support a municipal boundary adjustment, placing approximately 354 acres of private land into Langford, provided that the Beecher Bay First Nation agrees to transfer to Metchosin ownership of 250 acres of Crown Land offered to the Band as part of the Treaty process, and Metchosin receives a 112 acre greenspace buffer and a tax sharing agreement?

Voting Dates and Locations

 

General Voting

Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 8 am to 8 pm at the

Metchosin Community Hall at 4401 William Head Road, Victoria, BC

 

Advance Voting

Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 8 am to 8 pm; and

Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 8 am to 8 pm at the

Municipal Office at 4450 Happy Valley Road, Victoria, BC

Voter Registration

The District of Metchosin uses the most recent Provincial list of voters as its list of resident electors.  If you are not on the voters list, you may apply to register immediately before voting.

To apply to register as a resident elector, you must either produce two documents that provide evidence of your identity and place of residence, at least one of which must contain your signature; or produce at least two documents that provide evidence of your identity, at least one of which must contain your signature, and make a solemn declaration as to your place of residence. 

To apply to register as a non-resident property elector, you must produce at least two documents that provide evidence of your identity, at least one of which must contain your signature, and proof that you are entitled to register in relation to the real property and written consent from any other owners of the real property.

 

Voter Qualifications

To qualify to vote as a resident elector you must

  • be 18 years of age or older,
  • be a Canadian citizen,
  • be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months,
  • be a resident of the District of Metchosin for at least 30 days, and
  • not be disqualified from voting.

To qualify as a non-resident property elector you must

  • not be entitled to vote as a resident elector,
  • be 18 years of age or older,
  • be a Canadian citizen,
  • be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months,
  • be a registered owner of real property in the District of Metchosin for at least 30 days, provided that the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are  not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust, and
  • not be disqualified from voting.
